7 things to do before bed...that you will thank yourself for in the morning

Have you ever wondered how other families can get ready and out the door on time? Me too. That is, until I realized that in order to be punctual, you need to be organized. It took me a good while to learn this but over the years, I have perfected my "evening routine" so that things can run a lot smoother in the morning - whether we have a day out or even just stay at home.

Taking 30 - 40 mins the night before to prep and organize the house before you go to bed will help you feel less stressed and even give you more time to get ready in the morning instead of just running out the door makeup free, hair tied up in a messy bun and in your trackies/sweats.

1. Turn on your dishwasher

This may seem so "duh" to some but I didn't start doing this until about a year ago and I really noticed the difference it made the next day.

If you turn on your dishwasher at night and have it running before/during you sleep, the next morning you can unload the dishwasher and throught the day, you can keep loading it and by evening time it is full and ready to be used again. Doing this keeps your kitchen and sink empty and clean throughout the day.

2. Put away the toys

Having two little ones at home means a LOT of toys and mess on the floor. If the toys are put away every night, then you will wake up to a tidy and put away house and it will make you feel a lot more relaxed. I don't know about you, but waking up to a messy and untidy house instantly makes me feel stressed and disorganized.

You could even make it a game for your kids and get them to help you clean up their toys. A good way to instill responsibilities while they are young.

3. Set out everyone's clothes

Choose the clothes that you and your kids are going to wear the night before and set them out in their room, your room, any room so that when it's time to get dressed, everyone knows what they're wearing and there isn't a "what will I wear today?" moment. If your kids go to school, it's even easier! Uniforms!

4. Pack your bags

If you're off on a fun adventure the following day, make sure to pack your bag/s! I always ALWAYS pack a bag for myself and the kids the night before we go anywhere. If it's a nappy bag or just a backpack with snacks and drinks, pack it all the night before so you know what you need the next day and aren't rushing around the next morning trying to figure out what to bring. You won't forget anything because you have had quiet time to really think about what you need.

And when you're ready to go, just pick up the bag and get in the car :)

5. Set the table

Set out mats, plates, bowls, spoons, glasses - anything you need for breakfast the following day so that the only things that need to be added to the table are milk and juice.

6. Make a list

Lists are fantastic. I am always making lists of what I need to do, buy, make, etc. Making a list the night before really helps so you know what must be done the day after. And it also keeps you on track and not get distracted by doing other things that can wait.

I find it so satisfying when I cross out the tasks one by one on my list. And at the end of the day, when I look back at my list and see that most or all of the items were completed, I feel so happy and proud of myself. It's the little things...haha.

7. Relax

After all this is done, it's time to sit back and relax. I find it so satisfying sitting down and relaxing knowing that my house is tidy, the dishes are being washed, and everything is set and prepped for the next day.

These tips may seems so obvious, but when you do them every night, then you are guaranteed a smooth and stress free morning (provided the kids cooperate haha).

Please comment on what your evening routine is or what you do to get your family out the door on time - I'd be interested to know what you all do and perhaps add it to my evening routine.

Talk soon xo

Love,

B
